Drawing Performance

ACT(I)ON 31.1.13 (2013)

Performance drawing.

Duration: 6 hours

Performed at I am. Interrupted exhibition, as part of the One Billion Rising Arts Festival* on 31 January 2013, Testbed 1/The Doodle Bar, London, UK.

The work incorporated lines, the body and constraint. The artist was attached to a pillar by a red string made of wool. Confronted with the vast black space of the blackboard walls, she started to draw with white chalk. Spectators could choose to help her and draw with her by using the colour chalks placed around the space. The performance examines overcoming the constraint attachment can bring and deals with endurance and perseverance.

* One Billion Rising, an initiative of Eve Ensler, Tony Award winning author of the Vagina Monologues, is a global campaign, a grassroots movement for the end of violence towards women and girls.
