Drawing Performance

a line, a boundary, a bridge (2025)

Performance drawing

Colour pigment, charcoal, chalk, cloth, stones, paper

Dur: approx. 20mins

Performed at Mind the Gap, a solo exhibition by Alison Lam, curated by Celina Loh, at SeeSaw Space, Manchester, UK on 20 February 2025 and at Westminster Reference Library, London, UK on 29 March 2025; funded by Arts Council England National Lottery Grant.

A meditative performance involving actions of unfolding, wrapping and using a paper scroll to draw a line. These simple yet deliberate actions explore the tension between the inner self and the outer world, and the desire to integrate them. Reflecting on self-acknowledgement and acceptance, the piece was commissioned by Alison Lam for her exhibition Mind the Gap and resonated with the overwhelm experienced within neurodivergent communities, offering a contemplative moment of connection and introspection.

Mind the Gap was born from workshops Alison Lam held with neurodivergent individuals across the UK. It reframes overwhelm as not just something negative but as an experience with potential for growth. For more information visit Alison Lam’s website.
